A few little modifications I have done regarding the electrics to make the existing system work better have been to replace some of the corroded earth connections to the body. One of these also included moving the wiring that carries power to the headlights/indicators that originally ran through the front panel. The reason for this was that if any work is needed to the front of the engine which involved removing the front panel then the wiring had to be disconnected or cut. To get around this I cut all the connectors out of it and soldered the cut ends together whilst removing the earth wires from the loom. I then rerouted and secured the wiring to the top of the front panel and attached the earth wires direct to the inner wings.
<<< Photo showing the rerouted front lighting loom. Its secured by cable ties through holes underneath it enabling it to be easily released if the front panel needs to be removed. The wiring is long enough to be left in situ whilst carrying out work on the front of the engine and I have actually removed and replaced the engine without needing to disconnect or cut the wiring at all.

I hope this section has given you a few basic pointers on your Land Rover electrics and has given you some confidence to tackle some straightforward jobs. It wasn’t intended as an in depth know everything there is to know guide as that would have taken up the entire site! However as with anything its best tackled one step at a time to become knowledgeable with your vehicles electrical systems. I’ve listed a few links below if you want to take your knowledge/skills further and can thoroughly recommend the book. The links to websites are there if you want to buy additional electrical items although I’m not connected to them or the book in any way. If you don’t want to buy from the sites or read the book then that’s up to you.
<<< Excellent in depth guide to all the Lucas components used in your Land Rover.
