The Series 3 Land Rover has many Identification numbers stamped about the vehicle. Although these aren’t really required when ordering parts it is important to know what components are fitted to your vehicle in case they have been changed at some point in its life.  For example if you wanted a front inner hub bearing for your 1975 Series 3 but someone in the past had exchanged the front axle from one off a 1971 model then you might end up with the incorrect part as the bearing changed spec in 1972!

The front axle Identification numbers consisted of a 3 digit Prefix, a serial number and a suffix Letter.

Front axle Numbers are usually found on the left hand side just in front of the breather.
